Sovereignty & Community.

The Traditional Center for Indigenous Knowledge and Healing exists to provide a place in which all people can seek refuge, sharing an understanding of the world through traditional culture and healing practices, while providing and maintaining a culturally safe place for the indigenous community. The Traditional Center for Indigenous Knowledge and Healing believes in the preservation of indigenous culture through a matrilineal-based community.

In Pre-Columbus times there was no dominating of things around us, and there was the belief that humans were the caretakers, the stewards of all of life around them. We didn't believe that we were greater than what surrounded us. The ailments that plagued people weren't as severe as they are now. From the beginning of time there has been physical, mental and emotional illnesses, but it wasn't as out of balance as it is today. The way life was lived was in harmony with the creation around us, and creation around us helped us to stay in balance.

Ultimately, at the Traditional Center of Indigenous Knowledge and Healing, we are devoted to serving the people, and helping those who are willing to, once again, find their place in creation, and live in balance, rooted deeply in connection. As traditional indigenous people, we understand that there are many ways in which a person can seek healing for themselves. We believe in creating a safe setting, while upholding the teachings from the lineage in which we come from. We value community, and believe in our traditional roles within our communities. We follow a matrilineal way of life, and this in itself is a huge aspect of the healing that occurs. Our organization is structured to support this through 2 sectors: Caney y Conuco-Knowledge Sharing and Food Sovereignty.

As people come to learn and share, they become part of the community, part of a larger family, and we respect and honor each other as such. Our people took care of each other, and this is what we practice.
